Here we are in July already and I haven't posted a thing. I have managed to weave at least 3 rugs. Two are made with recycled jeans... my first jean rugs. I really like them. The third is one made from loopers, sort of like the ones we used to make potholders as children. It is gray and white with a smattering of various colors here and there.
Speaking of those potholders of childhood, I certainly kept busy making them. My mother bought my stash of loopers and always had her choice of potholders to choose from. My entrepreneurial mind sent me out into the neighborhood to knock on doors and offer my wares at the price of 15 cents each or 2 for a quarter. Considering that at the time a Hershey Bar was 5 cents that wasn't a bad price for me to get. I sold lots of them. When I was in the care of my Grandma Rioth, I made potholders there. She used them as gifts for her many friends. That was in the late 50's to early 60's, so if any still exist, they are vintage now!
This means that I can claim to be a longtime weaver, even though I have had my floor loom just less than a year.
I will be weaving at the Howard County Fair this Tuesday. I need to get busy and select my materials. We do our fiber arts in the log cabin in the center of the Fair's Pioneer Village. If you are in the neighborhood, drop in and see what everyone is up to.

My Cousins Cottage
Today I joined Rebecca Rogers Miller and Sheryl Hamilton Jeffries in a new craft endeavor. We have named ourselves "My Cousins Cottage." We plan to participate in the new Kokomo Makers' Art Market.
We plan to offer handmade jewelry, crocheted and knitted items, hand-woven rugs, needlefelted items and more. If you are in the area, we hope you will visit our booth.

A new beginning
Having neglected my Etsy shop, I have decided to restart. The shop is quite understocked at the moment, but hopefully the blog will help me to get inspired and get busy.
Last year I purchased a lovely old Union 36 Rug Loom. I am definitely still learning, but it is relaxing most of the time and I seem to have a natural knack for weaving. Last weekend I purchased a beautiful 4 harness table loom. I am recovering from carpal tunnel release surgery, so as much as I might like to jump in and try it out, I need to wait a bit longer. In the meantime, I am able to fiddle with my weaving sticks in small blocks of time.
I will try to post some photos soon of this work with some pointers on weaving with the weaving sticks. I just have to locate my camera.
